2011 Oscar Nominations (Sort Of)

The Oscar nominations were announced today, and while at TMIAJ will not list them all, because quite frankly, they are a bit boring this year, and second we will talk about a few items that pertain to the genres covered on the site.

Best Picture

The Artist
Hugo
The Descendants
The Help
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
Midnight In Paris
War Horse
The Tree Of Life
Moneyball

A couple of years ago the Academy expanded to 10 films, but this year chose 9.  The Artist seems to be the critics favorite but Hugo or even The Help could sneak a victory.

Best Animated Feature

A Cat In Paris
Chico And Rita
Kung Fu Panda 2
Puss N' Boots

How in the world The Adventures Of Tin Tin wasn't even nominated is beyond us.  It's better than all five of these films.  Even Winnie The Pooh was better.

A couple of other notes:  It's nice to see Nick Nolte get nominated for Warrior.  The movie was highly under rated and damn good, and Nolte was excellent in it.    No Music Score nomination for Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross?  The Academy can suck it. Overall there's really not a whole lot more interesting to talk about with the Oscars this year, as genre films aren't as represented as they are in some years.  The Oscars take place on February 26, 2012/
