After last week's departure of Colin Trevorrow from the director's chair of 2019's Star Wars Episode IX, rumor ran rampant as to who would take over duties.  Today Lucasfilm announced that Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams would return to finish off  the new trilogy of films.  Star Wars Episode IX is expected to go behind the cameras in early 2018 and Abrams will not only direct the film but also write the script along with Chris Terrio.  “With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.  With Abrams at the helm they also announced the film would move from it's May 2019 release date to December 20, 2019 when Star Wars Episode IX will arrive in theaters.
